Leather Picklehaube Helmet

This is a Prussian Pickelhaube spiked helmet, a replica of an Imperial German officer’s helmet, typically made of lacquered leather with a brass  metal spike and fittings.

With its sharp spike in the centre of its protective dome, the Pickelhaube is one of the most iconically recognizable objects produced by Imperial Germany. Soon establishing itself as a symbol for the entire German nation, it was often used by humourists to poke light fun at what were taken to be characteristic German foibles. The Deutschland museum displays the spiked helmet of a Prussian corporal from the turn of the 20th century.
